About Us

Our educational Montessori programs offer early learning experiences for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years. We are a community of children, parents, and teachers defined by and committed to cultivating a passion for personal excellence in each individual child, parent, and staff member in all that we do here at Briarwood.

Location

Located in a 200 year old charming farmhouse, Briarwood Children’s House sits on six acres of a beautiful and spacious wooded area with fruit trees and pond. Children have the opportunity to enjoy the natural setting with two outdoor playgrounds, one for infants and toddlers and another for Pre-K and Kindergarten students. Children enjoy our outdoor gardening space and have a chance to grow and cultivate vegetables and flowers.

Brief History

The idea of Briarwood Children’s House has lived with me over the many years I have been in the field of early childhood education. I have always had the vision of a school for young children where peace, quality, and an extended family exist. After many years of planning and keeping watch out for the perfect place, Briarwood was founded in April of 2007.

“Children’s House” was adopted to symbolize the importance & lasting legacy of Dr. Montessori’s first “Children’s House” of Rome, Italy. This very first Montessori miracle school was called the “Casa dei Bambini” or “House for Children.” Our school is set on six richly wooded and thickly brushed acres; Briarwood reflects the tone and landscape of our natural surroundings.

A house for children must be built on a strong foundation in order for a lifetime of learning to take root. Brick by brick each piece exists to support the entire structure; the educational base developed at Briarwood will support your child throughout – it is learning for life.

-Sandy Becker

"Our vision is of an educational system that serves a world that lives in peace; a global community based on interdependence and respect for all life and people."

– Dr. Maria Montessori

Mission Statement

Briarwood Children’s House wills to be the guiding light illuminating every child’s awakening spirit by providing an environment honoring the true intent and purpose of Montessori philosophy and education. We believe in every child’s unique giftedness. Through every aspect of our program we celebrate the child’s wonderment of life, protect the child’s unfolding spirit and nurture the child’s natural desire to learn by providing beautiful, authentic, engaging, learning environments.

Our Hallmark

The school's hallmark is our warm and welcoming environment, embracing the community of families who choose to participate in the opportunities for learning, commitment and involvement. We value our relationships with our parents and we work hard to establish ourselves as an extension of your family. There exists here a support system of parents and teachers working on behalf of each child’s optimal development.
